Safety Issues

Primary Issue: Seasonal/Weather Issues

Many Federal lands experience changes in visitor patterns and traffic levels due to seasonal effects, or the weather in general. The following image shows an example of snow coach in a Federal land. Access to this Federal land has continued through the use of different infrastructure (equipment).

There are various potential solutions to address seasonal and weather issues. These include infrastructure solutions to limit or permit travel, ITS solutions to inform travelers of weather or seasonal closures, transit solutions to allow access, and policy solutions that manage the Federal land in all seasons. The following links let you view the Fact Sheets which provide detailed information on the possible solutions relating to these issues.
