Traffic Congestion

Primary Causes: Traffic Flow-Roadways-Alternate Routes

Traffic (congestion) issues can occur because of the flow (mix and speeds) of traffic, the capacity of the roadways, and the availability of alternate routes. Image 1 shows a long line of vehicles en-route to a Federal Land , Image 2 shows a long line of vehicles entering a Federal Land, and Image 3 shows a sign indication an alternative truck route.

The possible solutions to address these issues includes: building more infrastructure (roads, entrances, etc), using ITS to manage the current capacity more efficiently, or reducing the demand on the roadways through policy or transit. The following links let you view the Fact Sheets which provide detailed information on the possible solutions relating to this issue.
