Employee Entrances/Routes

A sign shows the direction to a separated employee entrance.

General Description:

Separate employee entrances allow employees to be separated from the public when entering the park.  This reduces congestion and the employees travel time.  Automated Vehicle Identification (AVI) systems and Automated Gate Accesscan be used to identify employees and allow admittance.

Effects of Solution:

¨     Increase Passenger Throughput

¨     Increase Roadway Capacity

¨     Manage System Efficiency

þ     Reduce Local Demand (Removes employees from the visitor routes)

Separating employees from other motorists reduces the demand on a facility.

Examples of Implementation:

Employee Shuttle

Mount Rainier National Park

Automatic Vehicle Identification

Yellowstone National Park (Gardiner Entrance)

Cost/Financial Information:

There are different ways to separate employee traffic from public traffic.  Existing routes may be used by employees, which require little cost.  However, new routes may be necessary if existing routes are not available.  See the Additional Road Lanes fact sheet for more details.
