Portable Speed Monitoring System (PSMS)

Portable Speed Monitoring System (PSMS)

General Description:

PSMS is a trailer mounted dynamic message sign, radar gun and computer that is powered by a generator or operates off of solar power.  The system determines a vehicle's speed with the radar gun and displays the current speed, in real-time, and also stores the speeds in a computer for further analysis.

Effects of Solution:

¨     Increase Passenger Throughput

¨     Increase Roadway Capacity

¨     Manage System Efficiency

¨     Reduce Local Demand

Portable Speed Monitoring Systems are primarily used to inform motorists of their speeds.  They may be used as a supplement to speed enforcement as well as data collection.  PSMS is not a solution in itself and must be used in conjunction with enforcement to impact traffic speeds.
