Parking Monitoring System

General Description:
A Parking Monitoring System monitors the storage available in a parking facility and notifies motorists of available parking. Typical systems include Roadside Detectors (RS-D), Entrance/Exit Meters, Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), and controllers that direct motorists to areas that have not yet reached capacity. A toll collection scheme may be integrated into the system if desired. Low Power areas may require the use of Solar Power to operate some equipment.
Effects of Solution:
¨ Increase Passenger Throughput
¨ Increase Roadway Capacity
þ Manage System Efficiency (Allocates parking spaces efficiently)
þ Reduce Local Demand (Spreads demand to other areas)

Ramp meters are used to detect and count vehicles entering/existing the parking facility. Operating and maintenance costs are based on annual service contract. Tag readers support an electronic payment scheme. Operating and maintenance costs are based on annual service contract. Capital costs for the parking monitoring system include installation costs, detectors, and controllers. The database system contains parking pricing structure and parking availability. Operating and maintenance costs are based on annual service contract. Low end prices for hardware include a PC and printer. High range costs include the central computer system (PC, diagnostic PC, and software).
