Highway Advisory Radio (HAR)

Highway Advisory Radio (HAR)

General Description:

Highway Advisory Radio is a service that provides roadway information.  Drivers are alerted to tune their car radios to a specific channel in order to receive transmitted information.  HAR must be used in conjunction with other technologies such as Road Weather Information System (RWIS), Environmental Sensing Stations (ESS), Roadside Detection (RS-D), Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), pavement sensors, and other technologies that gather weather and roadway information.  HAR can disseminate information about current roadway conditions, road closures, construction events, congestion, alternate routes, or any other valuable directions that may assist motorists.
